Alone Time

face_close_iconRiss is packed and ready to go. She and Dave are flying to New York tonight til Thursday. Seems Usher called and asked Dave to play on a song with him on a VH1 show taping this week. I am excited for her, New York is the greatest city in the world, and as time goes on, I miss being there more and more (I lived there for 2 years while I worked at MTV). I am a little envious, but I am also looking forward to the alone time. I am an only child, and while Riss and I get along incredibly well, sometimes I like solitude.

I have found that in my life I get creatively inspired when I am bored. In school I was an awful student, and spent most of my time talking or drawing for hours and hours in the back of the class. When I have had jobs, I  daydream about song or band ideas. Maybe this week's alone time will prove productive, we'll see. I have begun hitting the gym again, so I plan on doing some good physical work, and maybe I'll take the subway downtown again for a writing excursion.

We have booked our first show, and will be playing sometime this month. Our intent is to keep it low-key for friends, and Panic Agents (no business people) so we are playing under a different name. We will leave clues as to what and where we are playing, so if you are in L.A. and you'd like to come, you can. The plan is to play a few "secret" shows, then begin to play under our real name. The first show will be free.

We are in a unique position, usually a band plays for months and months (if not years) before the business and press people start to show up, but with this band, we very much want to play just for music fans and friends for as long as possible. We will be testing out songs to see how they go over, seeing how our stage vibe flows, and I am going to be testing out which songs to play guitar on and which to just sing on. In Skycycle, I played guitar and sang 100% of the time, that was an integral part of our sound, but with The Channel, Dave's sound is so BIG and full-featured, that I can have the freedom to just sing the words sometimes.

ooooh some secret LA shows! I am so there! Hopefully I'll be able to figure it out from the clues!

Just please don't make it this coming Sunday or the same weekend of the Bridge School Benefit (Oct 23/24)...

A few questions about your "secret" shows in LA-

Will clues be limited to this site only or will Dave have some on 6767? I'm in LA and frequent that site (6767) regularly so i wanted to know if he will be posting stuff. if not i will definitely monitor this site for any clues.

KS

i'd come to the secret shows. but there's the thing with me living in australia.... mmmmm hopefully when you guys get big enough and start touring everywhere, you'll come here? that would be cool.

Yo Steve,

This free gig thing is a really cool idea. I'd love if you played some Skycycle stuff and some Dave solo stuff to round out the set - maybe even the Who medley. *hint* Definitely hoping to see you in Dublin next year!

Canine

Boooooohooooooo!

There is something about being in the UK that makes me feel I'm always missing out on something.

Sounds really exciting though!

RP
*Knowing exactly what you mean about the only child/solitude thing...i've always thought it made me more creative*

Sorry....di I just hallucinate that post?

If not, I'm glad you've got enough for food and petrol now...unexpected gain is smile-worthy no matter what form it takes!

RecklessPrincess:

I feel like I'm missing out becuase I've never been to the UK! Riss and I were going to London earlier in the year, but we had to cancel the trip. England is one of my most eagerly anticipated travel destinations, I've always had a fascination with it. Someday, someday.

And the post you saw, no hallucination, I posted, then decided that I was letting too much personal info out... so that one will be our secret! I will probably repost after I cut a few bits out, like the screenshot of my bank account!

And yes, there is a "pond" between The Panic Channel and the UK, but we plan on having more content on the web than any band has ever even considered doing once we are up to speed. Let's really use this wonderful medium to get closer together...

...And look at it this way, by the time we get to your country, we will be rock solid and past the onstage growing pains we plan to subject our friends and family of L.A. to!

S

I'm sorry, I know this probably is a stupid question. It seems from your posts that your girlfriend works with Dave in some capacity, but I don't remember reading in your previous posts what exactly that is?

Great news about L.A. shows! Hopefully they are soon! My friend will be visiting me from out of state in October/ November, would love to surprise him with "Panic"
Have a good day!

I checked out the 'wasteland' download on Dave's site & I'm now even more eager to hear what you guys are going to come up with. Hopefully your eagerness to visit us in the UK comined with Dave's oft mentioned love of the place will mean that TPC will be frequent visitors.

Have fun at the secret show. I'll be with you in spirit

Matt :O)

hi Steve,

i'd love to get the answer to my question: any posibilities to get your CD out before the end of the year. Dave said two months ago it's for sure. two months passed, and is it still the same answer? are you preparing to sing any deal or you're gonna sell your CD via internet or so?
lucky you LA residents for a chance to see TPC live . hope we - Europeans - will be lucky too somewhere in the future. :)

Steve!

a huge request.

i'm looking for a font of Till Death Do Us Part title. i had no luck to find it. i know you worked for MTV. maybe there's any chance to make a phone and help me out. thanks :)

That's awesome! I wish I was in LA. Don't be afraid of coming to Chicago for one of these secret shows. =)

(Steve, if you could send me the FTP info when you can, that'd be great and I'll get the messageboard up.)

- Brad

i so wish i could come to the secret gigs coming up, but living in london uk has its downside!

much love

Steve-
I feel the same way about the solitude thing from your post "Alone Time" but i find it hard to obtain sometimes. Living with my girlfriend is great but i do crave silence. How do you go about letting your significant other that you need that time with out hurting their feelings? I am not looking for you to "help" me just your ideas. Thanks man. Oh by the way. I was at the chicago nascar race in july and saw Puddle of mudd play. Great time were you guys oictured on Rusty Wallace's Miller Lite car also? Just wondering if they do it for all the bands who play the infield. Thanks Steve for your time.

Hey Steve this is bluelizard i dont know if you remember me i was the one screaming at Dave at the speedway after the show and he came and say "hello" to us and said "say hello to Steve" or something like that (a little more beers that i can handle, lol) i just want to say you have a kick ass voice, thanks for the show.

amor y paz,
Blaca Lizardi

RP~I'm having those same feelings, sulking because I'm going to miss "the growing pains" shows because I live in the UK. Excited about it too though.
I lived in the US for a long time, and I'm from England; so I feel as if I have part of me in the UK and part in the US, which gets a bit confusing. :)
That Nascar was on the tele here in the middle of the night, and I was like show the music!!
Nice video clip of the Nascar show on the downloads page on 6767~thanks!

Steve~I stopped by the Garden State blog. (well I lived in that state for so long, wnet to high school in NJ) I haven't seen the movie on here in the UK. At least haven't noticed it anywhere.
Anyway, it's damn lively over on that blog, and I posted, that Steve Isaacs had sent me over there in the comments! :D
Well, I wasn't sure what was going on a first so, I did some name dropping! :P

Not really, I just thought it would be funny to do that. But it was true that I didn't know what was going on at first.

I've been drawing a lot myself lately. Is it catching? I go in phases with that, and like you said, a lot of times it's when I am bored. I did a lot of daydreaming in school!

FOLKS:
I have had a really mad thought...
..I may be able to hop on a plane and come over to a growing pains gig...
...it's just a thought, but it had me jumping around my house yesterday evening when my boyfriend suggested it...
*getting that excited feeling again*

I haven't done anything "way out there" for ages.

Peace Out
(Got any kitten names?)

Hey Steve I,

How's it going. Unfortunately I'm on the other side of the pond too so won't get to see Panic anytime soon. Nobody I like ever plays here in Ireland!

To be honest with you I was a bit sceptical about you recording with the other guys at first but I've really come around to the idea now. That clip of Wasteland on Dave's site plus hearing those Skycycle songs posted here has won me over.

I'd love it if you could record some of your secret gig and post it either here, on Dave's site or on the Panic Channel website. Lots of fans who won't make it to that gig would love to see what you've been getting up to in rehearsals these past few months. Any plans to update Panic's website BTW?

She Won't Last and Loophole rock!

Better finish up now or my boss will get suspicious!

Keep the faith,

TW

Steve,

Thanks for all the details from your CF show recap. That was really interesting to read about and made me feel like I was there... Hey, on that note, I'll be visiting San Diego 20-27 SEP for my best friend's wedding, so maybe it'll be perfect timing if one of your TPC shows goes down. Sounds like good times! -Al (Detroit Rock City)

Hi Steve,
Can't wait for the secret shows. You rocked this Sat. By the way I took a few pictures of you recording the gig. In fact I think you caught me taking a picture of you taking a picture. Or something like that. I think I'll finally get a chance to develop them this Friday and post them. Hopefully they came out ok. One question, if we get to go to the secret show will camera's be allowed? I would love to get some good shots with my good camera.
