Ouija Boards and Volume Pot Mods

face_close_iconBought a Ouija Board last night. Many reasons, can't tell you why yet. The only kind they sell now are the glow-in-the-dark ones. Mine didn't have the little felt "glide feet" that make it easier to move the pointer around on the board. Called Hasbro and they're sending me my glide feet. Goddamn right.

Went to San Pedro today to meet up with my amp maker, Fred from Divided by 13. My amp has been a little hard to control volume-wise in rehearsal, so he gave me a Variac, a heavy little metal box that can control the amount of juice coming from the wall into the amp. So if my amp is too loud, and I want to turn it down, but not lose tone, I turn down the Variac and the amp has less power going into it. Seems like kind of a Flintstones solution, but he is adamant that having a master volume on the amp would lessen it. What the hell.

He also opened up my black Telecaster and tweaked the volume pot (the knob mechanism) and added a "bypass cap". So that I can roll off my volume and not have the tone get dull. Apparently this is how they had it wired back in the day - Clapton and Townshend etc., they wouldn't have a bunch of pedals, they would just roll off the volume to get the clean tone. My amp is built for that kind of playing. I just think it's pimpy having a "modded volume knob". Fred is such a cool guy, and whenever I talk to him, he has a ton of info for me to absorb. Today he was talking about mics, and mic placement, and all kinds of cool Classic Rock Bible tricks. Since we are recording soon, every little bit helps.

There ws a dead butterfly on my front patio this afternoon. Odd seeing something usually so free, so ...still. The ants hadn't gotten to it yet.

Working on a new song. Can't talk about it much, don't want to jinx it. It's a bit more adventurous than any of our songs so far. Will take a bunch of late night homework.

We are also working on the full Panic Channel website.

We will launch it Halloween night, October 31st.

and here is a hello to the 6767ers...

Steve, there are great ouija boards out there these days with beautiful designs on them...just been looking into it myself. I had some weird experiences with one myself many years back. Thanks for the 6767 recognition clip! Its great ;) Well, I gotta go, the ole police heli is flying around above, so I wanna go check out the hoopla!
...fun stuff around here...

ummm, well, yes, I was gonna say "first post" but Abby beat me to it...
weejee boards? Well, wherever inspiration comes..be careful what you wish for.
yes, nice clip, and I say that confidently, having successfully downloaded Quicktime...Abby, got pics back today, you better send me snail mail addy, cause I am about as good with downloading pics, as I am at taking them..

LOL! Well, lets try the you emailing them to me from the CD thing...I think you can do it...try to do it from the hotmail acct...if you want I can sign onto msn and walk you through it. I think this will be easier and "safer" because I have on really great mail person....but about a hundred who can't figure out these apartments, and stuff seems to frequently "dissapear" becasue the damn neighbors are not all honest enough to re-deliver missed packages(or too lazy) let me know, and if it seems too difficult, either mail...or (lightbulb) if I can make it to the Dave signing....just low finances and not sure if the book buy is "do-able" unless I get a job (in wich case I will be unable to make the signing!)

Sorry to take up room here for this Steve..but it is TPC related...so that's how I'll justify it! ;)

Steve Ouija Board? That brings back so many bad memories. I swore never to use one again in the 10th grade I’m a big scary cat. I swear those things are plain evil.

On a side note I can’t wait for the new panic channel website; woohoo it launches on my favorite holiday. This year we’ll be dressing up like pirates. ARrr I can’t wait.

yarrrgh!!! Gotta love Halloween...and Pirates!!!

So steve....we will get to know the reason for this ouija board??? Can we get a hint??? I'm so nosy! ...but you did kinda say it in a kinda forboding way...and so since you shared...I guess we are allowed to wonder! LOL

You will definitely know the reason for the Ouija Board.

good! Sounds exciting then!!!

What up Steve, luv the shout out, feeling special now ")
TPC website can't wait to see what u's come up with, also the reasoning for the ouija board....hummmmmmmm haven't played with one of them in 15 years, omg showing my age again "( Hope all is well Peace n' luv

What up Abby....where u been grllllll ")

Hello Steve...thanks for the shout out to the 6767 peeps! Have you had an opportunity to hear "Shoot", the cyber song on Dave's site??? What are your thoughts?

Hey Steve, a couple of posts ago you mentioned buying The Who live at the Isle of Wight, because you have been looking for a live recording of the Who playing "Tommy". I was just wondering if you checked out the Deluxe Edition of Live at Leeds? It also has all of "Tommy" and is obviously a classic Who album.

Ah yes, the Ouija board... one time when I was in Jr. High I went to a psychic and she told me that I had medium powers and to be careful with ouija boards.. so of course that made me curious and I was fiddling around with mine one night with a few friends in one of the friend's freaky basement and we got scared out of our minds when we all lifted up our hands up at the count of 3 and the candles started flickering and the pointer kept moving by itself to "g-o" and something else, we all ran out and didn't stay to see the rest of the letters. The next day my friend's parents went down to get the board, we were too scared to go back down to retrieve it.. haha

Maria

Funny...I was never scared by Ouija boards...I always WANTED to talk to dead people! ;)

Colleen!!!! I should ask you the same!! I'm here now, lol. Your sis rocks ;) hopefully see you in chat for CFR if not sooner (hoping I can make CFR...)

Hey steve, when were you involved with tommy? was it the touring show? I'm only asking cause I used to know a pianist who toured with the show named kristy. can't wait to see the new site.

Very cool, the hidden "thanks" from TPC for attending the 9/21 show.

Halloween seems appropriate!

can't wait for halloween!!!!

"Go On"

Simply brilliant...

"called hasbro and they're sending me my glide feet" lol
Hey Man, if the new song is even similar to "Go On", I can't wait to hear it. It's just gonna smoke. God, I can't wait to hear/see more PC. Go On is pretty damn addicting. Must've seen it 50 times. Unbelievable. Godspeed!

Cheers for the 6767 shout out Steve! :D
Love

p.s.
try an upturned glass with that ouija until the feet things get there.
i'm sure you did your research anyway. because you and I were chatting on here about that a while back. i posted my little poem story on here!
i did go search the net a little after that for ouija boards. found a good site too.
i'm more on the it brings up your subconscious myself.

whatever, my friend scared me about using it, and i think that's why i had a bad experience.

oooh steve, be really careful with the oujia board. i don't care what anyone else says but they can evoke cheeky spirits who want to scare the shit out of you. I remember at a music camp about 5 years ago, me and 6 friends were playing with a oujia board in our dorm and we were all laughing and mucking around, thinking it was a joke and asking "okay, who pushed it this time?!" until it started telling us that it was a boy who was 9 and was murdered by his dad and we all got scared because more and more people started taking their hands off, thinking the other was moving it until NO ONE had their hands on the thing and it was moving by itself. My friend got freaked out and threw the pointer across the room. And we were so scared that night that all six of us slept in the same bed because we were shit scared. After a while, I got up and went to my own bed and tried to sleep but I couldn't. Then i felt a hand on my shoulder, pull me down and I jumped out of bed screaming my ass of and turned on the light but there was no one there and everyone was still in the bed, wondering what was going on. I don't know if it was all in my head and I was so fucking scared but... shit does happen so be really careful.

by the way, i liked go on. its a wicked song!

Ahh..the power of suggestion...the incredible human mind.

I love Halloween! :D
