heLLo,
You guys WILL! no doubts!
Tho I enjoyed listening the 3 full presidential debates on my iPod. They're all available for download on the iTunes Music Store, for FREE, in the audiobook section.
I'm not american, but it was really interesting.
Steve-I'm back on posting, well sort of. My computer is still being worked on so I am borrowing another computer. Anyway, glad to be back here and I hope things are going well.
From Guatemala to Iran, from Chile to Nicaragua, to the struggle for freedom in South Africa, to present-day Venezuela, American state terrorism, licensed by both Republican and Democrat administrations, has fought democrats and sponsored totalitarians. Most societies attacked or otherwise subverted by American power are weak and defenceless, and there is a logic to this. Should a small country succeed in breaking free and establish its own way of developing, then its good example to others becomes a threat to Washington. -John Pilger
Hi Steve, i'm having a lot of problems lately i'm just soo frustrated my marriage is falling apart and i don't know what to do, i cant talk to him without yelling or fitting in my last attempt i'm going to write him a letter because a can take it any longer i don't know what went wrong, we really loved each other.
Blanca!!!!!
Remember, when we were on our way to Dave's book signing, and we called, and they said he was leaving, and we were freaking out, and we rolled down the windows, and we SCREAMED? Remember how much better we felt? I'm with you honey, I can't talk to my son without fighting, or him yelling, maybe we both need to write a letter, come over, we will scream and write together and I will make you melontinis...
Sorry, Steve, but it's what I love about you and Dave, this is how I met my dear friend, I love her lots,
call me
jezz!!!
Yep, everybody in the USA should vote for John Kerry. I'm going out canvassing for Kerry in a few minutes myself. If only I were old enough to vote myself! Oh well, let's just hope the race to the finish is a clean one!
Yep, everybody in the USA should vote for John Kerry. I'm going out canvassing for Kerry in a few minutes myself. If only I were old enough to vote myself! Oh well, let's just hope the race to the finish is a clean one!
Hey Steve, in the interest of actual legitmate discussion, do you have any real reason to vote for Kerry besides something you saw on a bumper sticker? This is the tough part.... you actually have to find something positive about him or one of his shifting positions. In the meantime, I have a question for you, since you're such a Kerry devotee: how do you reconcile his hiding his military records by not filing Form 180? What do you think he's hiding?
I think both Kerry and Bush are horrible candidates for President. They are so out of touch with what the American people really need or want. The only reason people vote for these two morons is for two primary reasons: 1)Americans(as a whole) are idiots, and they scarcely know what they want, and 2)They believe that these are the only two choices they have. Bush and Kerry are back and forth on what should be national law and which should be state law, what should be legal and what shouldn't. Most of these topics pertain to a moral issue or one that is split rather equally throughout the country. So here is my question: WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO LETTING PEOPLE DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES?? Although I believe that homosexuality is wrong, I don't think they should be denied the right to marry, and although I do not think smoking pot is a good decision, and I don't do it myself, I believe it should be legalized for those to choose what they do with their bodies. We are so entwined with fighting over who gets to take our rights, why don't we decide that we should be able to make the choices for ourselves?
I'm voting Michael Badnarik, the Libertarian candidate, on November 2nd.
If all you have against the guy is what you see as his "shifting positions", and some "Form 180" he skipped out on, I am not really impressed. I never said that I thought that he was the political Messiah, just that he deserves my vote, and a chance to improve this country.
George Bush is a lying asshole, that much I feel strongly about after 4 years of his administration, one that he was awarded on a loophole. I am amazed at anyones powers of self delusion to think that he should run this country for 4 more years. There is an avalanche of data against his relection, and all you can come up with to smear Kerry are "shifting positions" and form 180? Not convinced, my friend.
On the whole, I am just more fond of Democratic America instead of Republican America.
Steve, no that's far from all there is to say about Kerry. That's just a start. Not trying to convince you of anything, but maybe to be a tad open-minded. Your response to my question about Form 180, and what he's hiding, then? And Steve, I think you proved my point. Calling the opponent a "lying asshole" (did someone mention "smear"???) is NOT saying something positive about Kerry or his shifting positions. Steve, hatred is not politics. Well, at least nor for everyone.
And by the way, I don't buy the divisive "two Americas" thing. Talk about self-delusion! That's a cop-out for real discourse. Steve, you can claim your "avalanche of data" and use childish name-calling all you want, but that's not real discussion. It's bumper sticker logic. I asked for something positive about your candidate, and you, predictably, fell flat.
Speaking from the perpective of living in Britain and watching the coverage of the American election, most of the people I know are horrified that you guys might vote Bush in again. An awful lot of the rest of the world see the guy as a dangerous warmongering halfwit.
I watched a debate from Florida on the BBC tonight (I think it was also shown on BBC Worldwide so you might have been able to catch it in America) and at one point one of the speakers basically said the the French and Belgians (the Belgians for god sake!) had voted against invading Iraq at the UN because they'd been bribed by Iraq. These countries are your Nato allies for goodness sake. They didn't vote to invade Iraq because they didn't believe Iraq had weapons of mass distruction which was supposed to the reason for the war (because regime change is specifically not a valid reason to go to war under international law) and they were correct. It seems the only response the Republicans have to being proved wrong is to start name-calling.
One more thing, Steve. Can you provide me the "loophole" that "awarded" Bush the presidency? Is it the electoral college system? Voting deadlines? The rule of law in general? I've never heard it described in that terminology, so I'm curious to see if you can actually (seriously) back up that claim.
Moschops, no name-calling here (see Steve's post for that). I believe what you may've seen was in relation to the UN Oil For Food scandal. I've not heard of Belgium being implicated in that. I don't know if I'd equate discussing the Oil For Food scandal with name-calling. Are you claiming it didn't happen? I'm not sure which anonymous Republican called who what name, so it's kind of a moot point to discuss without any specifics. By the way, I can't speak for all of my country, but most people I know here hold Tony Blair in high regard, even, if I understand correctly, that he is at the opposite end of the spectrum from the Republican party.
Eddie, oooh ,yes, Tony is Wicked Sexy...but, enough about him, back to you...
top five reasons I should vote against Bush
top five reasons I should vote against Kerry
top five reasons I should vote for whatever candidate you are supporting
Wait, CAN YOU VOTE? it sounds like you are from another country....moot point, indeed
jezzi( Go, Abby!!!)
Didn't catch the guys name, but the panel included Michael Moore, an guy who was in the Clinton administration, someone related to the Bush campaign, another Republican commentator and the only Brit was an annoying right-wing tabloid writer from the British paper The Sun called Richard Littlejohn.
The name-calling I referred to was assigning underhand and immorral motives to the fact that countries who are your allies were unconvinced enough by the American case for war that they were prepared to not just not take part but to actually vote against it. If you can't even persuade your international friends that you're right then your sure as hell going to make the rest of the world think that America just does whatever it likes and to hell with the rest of the planet (and pulling out of the Kyoto Treaty and a whole bunch of other examples send exactly the same message).
And as for Tony Blair, he leads a party which used to be a socialist party. Under Tony Blairs leadership the Labour Party is considerably more right-wing than it used to be (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, though there's a fair few in his party that would disagree).
But for Tony Blair the whole Iraq escapade has been a political disaster. Before Iraq he could practically do no wrong and despite the odd crisis here and minor misjudgement there he still actually had very high personal poll ratings. That is not the case any more and there is a lot of talk of him being a political liability to his party instead of an asset (we elect governing parties, not individuals).
His only real rival, Gordon Brown, has been significantly less gung-ho about the war and there's a fair few in the rest of the Labour party who deeply resent being dragged into a war they didn't agree with (two cabinet ministers resigned when we invaded for example). The right wing opposotion party were more for the war than the ruling Labour party.
I honestly think his time as prime minister is limited, and it won't be because there'll be a change of govenment because the main opposition party in Britain is a joke, but because the Labour party will replace him as leader. Which wouldn't have happened if he hadn't dragged us into Iraq.
ED~One thing only. If you come on here to have a real debate, then at least have the COURAGE to put a real email address for yourself instead of a fake one.
If it's that important to you. This is Steve's Blog, and he has a right to put Vote Kerry on it, without having to explain himself.
I stay away from the Bush Vs Kerry debate myself. But Bush really should not even be President. I am astounded anyone would support a person who outright cheats, then uses a war to rally the USA people to his side. It's pathetic, and obvious. That's why he laughs so much.
I will end it there, because if I get going, I'll go on for pages.
Bush for President website..has suddenly denied access to me. Why? because I live in the UK?
Only USA ppl can view it.
Is there a good reason for doing that?
I could see it a week ago.
Lisa and Jezebel, I actually didn't want people to e-mail me. I didn't even think anyone would even try to send an e-mail to an address like "none@none.com". My questions were directed to Steve. If anyone wants to list their "I hate Bush" talking points, feel free, but I don't have the time to respond to 99% of them. I was only interested in some specific things, and Steve was unable to give me one POSITIVE reason to vote for Kerry, or even give me some opinion on why his military records are not made public.
One last thing, Moschops, I thought you were actually referring to a specific politician debating a campaign opponent. I don't take anything with Michael Moore in it as serious debate, and for you to watch him speak and then complain about "name-calling" is certainly the pot calling the kettle black. I can't speak for the specific "Republican" you're talking about, but the Oil For Food scandal is real, whether or not you care to extrapolate motives to it or not. And as far as the "international law" you cited earlier, remember that Hussein never honored his surrender terms from the Gulf War. These are issues that are not as simplistic as you might suggest, and you seem pretty resigned to extreme generalizations about my party, so I'll leave it at that, and just address Steve from now on.
ooooh, Eddie, are you calling Lisa and Jezebel "dumb"? I mean, that's what I 'extrapolated'. I think Jezebel was just asking, while you were attacking Steve for his choice, whether you had any VALID arguments for your candidate. And if you just want to address Steve, then why don't YOU do it in private, because, unlike you, he has the cahones to put his email out there....
love,
LLFLL(Republican for Kerry)
Steve,
Its blowing me away reading these posts. A full on debate! Not sure that I have seen so many comments on a Steve post. Very Cool, Steve, your public is talking.
But anyways, it was great seeing you Saturday night rocking out on stage again. Looking forward to the next show.
But to bring some humor back to the site I found this this morning you may have seen already http://www.airbagindustries.com/bucket/ipod/ Being a fellow iPod friend, I am sure you (and others) would enjoy this page.
People remember its our choice and just make Sure that you vote.
Ed~Don't be ridiculous, as if I am stupid enough to try to send you an email to that fake address. I can see it's fake when I hold my mouse over your name next to posted by. Please dude. Have some respect for other people's intelligence.
"I hate Bush comments". Here's another thing that may amaze you, I don't "hate" Bush. He's a person, and I don't know him personally.
If you came on here just to bait Steve, then I think that was a mistake. This isn't a forum for debating politics, or playing around with semantics, or challenging people about what they do and don't know like you grilling someone. I find the way you went about it underhanded. You obviously came on here and did it simply to bait and attack.
Once again, I repeat, Steve has a right to put Vote for Kerry on his blog without being attacked, or having to explain himself.
Ed~Your primary statement was "Hey Steve, in the interest of actual legitmate discussion, do you have any real reason to vote for Kerry besides something you saw on a bumper sticker?" which is simply an attack on Steve, rather than trying to have a legitimate debate. Again, I direct you to other discussion groups that are for policitical debate that you yearn for.
(and by the way, in the UK, we are permitted to end a sentence with a preposition, and to start a sentence with the word "And." Just in case you want to pick a debate with me on grammar usage)
Interesting,
Before I posted I just noticed a ton of Comments. Did not actually read what was posted other then the first few.
I agree this is Steves place to say what he feels. I work with some people similar to Ed and not sure that he will post anything as to understanding Steves point of few. Ed is a republican through and through. It would not matter who was running he would still vote republican.
Now Ed is entitled to his opinion, but he needs to be aware that shoving his beliefs down others throats is going to meet resistance. Me I am not too political, I cannot watch local TV here in LA right now because of the commercials. Just way too many, and each commercial is the opposite of the other and doing no good to sway me. I am reading the voters guide to explain what each measure and proposition is. But not going to let an ad help me decide.
I am going to Vote on November 2nd, and hope all that can do so this year. Change is needed and only we can create the Change.
Ed do not get me wrong I hear ya. However, I can say I do not agree with you. But you are entitled to your opinion. Thats America for you.
Just take it easy on the Ladies and others that dissent from your Ideas. This is a good community.
T
"extreme generalizations about my party"
your party? I don't understand why in the current situation with way too little choices anyone would associate themselves with a particular party. In my opinion I don't think we have a candidate that will be truly positive for the country and world. I don't think they truly reflect the opinions of the people in the country.
They both, in simple terms, suck, and what it comes down to is chosing the lesser of the 2 evils. And there is no way anyone is ever going to be able to agree on issues because there are so many different people out there with a variety of backgrounds and experiences that have shaped them into who they are. Which is why I say, once again, not enough parties to chose from.
What I would like to see is a president who is NOT going to use the military or go to any pointless war and who is going to make an effort to distribute funds more equally to areas that it is really needed.
I also don't see what was wrong with what what Steve said, escpecially considering that the candidates behaved worse with their mud slinging. He was expressing his opinion in a way he thought would be the best way to get it through.
Abby, I'm with you I can't wait til Nov. 3rd. As far as Steve stating his opinions on politics, hello, this is his blog. He can put whatever the F#ck he wants without giving any explanation.
"Ed~Don't be ridiculous, as if I am stupid enough to try to send you an email to that fake address. I can see it's fake when I hold my mouse over your name next to posted by. Please dude. Have some respect for other people's intelligence."
Lisa, obviously, I was referring to the post where Jezebel DID say she tried to e-mail me. I just didn't think I needed to address that in a separate post when anyone just following the thread can read whom did what. Talk about semantics!
"This isn't a forum for debating politics"
Oh, it's just vote-as-I-tell-you-and-don't-ask-why? I wasn't the one telling anyone how to vote. I only asked for clarification. Last time on this, because it's a waste. You do what you want to do, and I'll do what I want to do. No offense, but I don't really care for your opinion, only Steve's. You can give it all you want, but don't think I'm obligated (or neither is Steve for that matter) to respond.
Ylais, thanks, but I'm really only interested in Steve's opinion. This site revolves around him, really, not you or I. I can go to any politics site if I want a general public discussion. I especially don't want to debate with someone who says "I'll win" without even knowing the topic. It's a little too closed-minded.
T, you are generalizing WAY too much for someone who doesn't even know me. Can you point out exactly what beilief I am "shoving down throats"? I don't think I have even told ANYONE which way to vote here. Scroll up to the top if you want that message. Here is an actual quote from me: "Not trying to convince you of anything, but maybe to be a tad open-minded." Not exactly what I'd call shoving things down peoples' throats.
And to whomever else this applies, WHERE did you see my saying Steve has no right, blah blah blah? I asked a legitimate question. If we're not allowed to comment on his message, then why is this section open for comments. People seem to only like free speech when it's what they want to hear.
This shows a real lack of maturity. Should it be on a parody website, then I could care less, but this is Bush's OFFICIAL site.
As for flip flops, yes Kerry has changed his mind on some issues, but then again so has Bush, but I would never use such a disrespectful term as "flip flopper" for either of them. Check this out to see what I'm talking about. This is a list of Bush and Kerry's "flip flops". (To see Kerry's just click on the appropriate link)
And to you, Linda, I want to commend you for voting for Kerry. It is not easy to break with your party to do what you think is right.

Woow, I went on a bit there didn't I?
Posted by: moschops | October 28, 2004 09:48 PM
Love to the TPC family

Bush for President website..has suddenly denied access to me. Why? because I live in the UK?
Only USA ppl can view it.
Is there a good reason for doing that?
I could see it a week ago.

What site is that Ylais??
Posted by: Abby | October 28, 2004 11:47 PM

Thanks
Toby

Steve~I know you like wacky web stuff, so thought you would enjoy this. Everyone else too. Pretty silly.

Lisa,
"Ed~Don't be ridiculous, as if I am stupid enough to try to send you an email to that fake address.
People seem to only like free speech when it's what they want to hear.

georgewbush.com/olympics/
This shows a real lack of maturity. Should it be on a parody website, then I could care less, but this is Bush's OFFICIAL site.
As for flip flops, yes Kerry has changed his mind on some issues, but then again so has Bush, but I would never use such a disrespectful term as "flip flopper" for either of them. Check this out to see what I'm talking about. This is a list of Bush and Kerry's "flip flops". (To see Kerry's just click on the appropriate link)
And to you, Linda, I want to commend you for voting for Kerry. It is not easy to break with your party to do what you think is right.

Personaly I don't think Bush did anything wrong.
I'm not American but after September 11 someone had to show the world that the U.S was not to be fucked with.
