Dream Brother

face_close_iconSaw the new Sarah Mclachlan video today - really cool idea behind it. Saved the budget for craft services and makeup and sent it to charity. The song's pretty tame, but cool video. Thanks Stereogum.

You need iTunes to play...

>Tomorrow night is the second Presidential debate. Set your Tivos to see if Kerry can give Bush another good stomping! It's less than 30 days til election day, and the deadline to get in registration is at 15 days, so if you are lagging, get on that shit!!!

Project P:
Worked on it last night on song 4: "N1", also finished up the lyrics to song 3: "SW(twb)". It's weird how this thing was originally going to be a long song that went through a bunch of changes and had a beginning, middle and end, but now it's a whole sequence of songs. "N1" is the most rocking so far, the other songs were leading up to it in a way, and it is based mainly on the jam that Dave came up with and we play from time to time in the jam room. It has a really haunting quality to the "verse" parts, then it opens up and gets really mean and loud. This piece of music gave me the inspiration for "P" in the first place. Riss and Dave get back in two days, so I am trying to cram as much work in as possible before they get back. I will still be able to work, but when I am alone like this, I can completely concentrate without letting other stuff get in the way, "other stuff" like sleeping, eating, shaving, cleaning the house, hygiene, etc.

I can't say too much about the songs I am writing, but I can give you a list of some songs I have been listening to to get me in the mood to work on "P":

Jeff Buckley: Dream Brother, Grace, Nightmares by the Sea, Eternal Life.
Grandaddy: He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot
Doves: Sea Song
The Cure: If Only Tonight We Could Sleep
Supergrass: Eon
Soul Coughing: Lazy Bones
Shudder to Think: X French T-Shirt

I can't keep staying up later and later. Day before yesterday I went to sleep at 10am. I was a zombie yesterday. Got better yesterday, went to bed at a "decent" hour, 4am. Got some extra burgundy curtain from the garage and covered my work room window with it. Maybe if I can convince myself it's night time, I can start writing songs earlier.

Yesterday watched Donnie Darko again to keep me in the Halloween Season mood, also watched a new show on SciFi network called "Ghost Hunters": a new docu-show about a paranormal research team that search for ghosts and hauntings, and by day are plumbers for Roto-Rooter. Not bad. I like the wife giving the main guy grief for being a ghostbuster.

"Library shadows in candlelight
Bear the dark moody feeling
Surrounded by hundreds of books
Stretching up to the ceiling..."

sooo,
Steve, what did you think of the Vice-Presidential debate? Did anyone even watch? I am strangely attracted to Cheney, something about his eyes, and the sound of his voice, hypnotic, I'm getting sleepy, sleepy

Yes, very cool vid of Sarah, she is one of my fav chicks, not so much for her singing, but for how she uses her art to affect change. I see that in you, too, deep thinker that you are.
(you know, you never said I couldn't be incoherent, Don't say I didn't warn you)

^Strangely attracted to Cheney? Who are you, Trent Lott? j/k
If W makes the kind of appearance he made in the first debate, we can all welcome a change in a month! One can only pray.

eewwww, Trent Lott, ewwww
No, just a girl with a daddy fetish! lol
I know, body language, dubya, learn to take criticism, remember what happened to NIXON.
My big worry is that it's great that we have registered more voters than any other time in history, but they still have to get their butts to the polls and VOTE, and responsibly, too, remember what happened in Florida...wear those Glasses....!

"I can completely concentrate without letting other stuff get in the way, "other stuff" like sleeping, eating, shaving, cleaning the house, hygiene, etc."

Steve maybe you should take a picture to document the time.

speaking of sleep, I am such a night person. I only had 1 hour of sleep last night. would have been more if I didn't have to get up early for work. I was up all night reading and kind of feel like a zombie at the moment.

"The Cure: If Only Tonight We Could Sleep
Soul Coughing: Lazy Bones"
i was listening to those last night

Steve I admire your drive and dedication to your work.

Maria

hello all!

i'm not really into politics or environmental issues, but i found this site very interesting:
www.iwillevolve.org

hope everyone is doing well.

Steve--I'm feeling this project you're working on, work it, man.

"Go On" sounds great, your voice sounds tight, how about a cool "Leslie" effect on it when you lay down the vocal tracks?

Thanks for the inspiration here.

Kevin

So this "Project" Steve...

I'm guessing the whole sleep deprivation is playing a big part in its creation...and it has something to do with the whole "sleep" experience...

You're not working towards one of those CDs that claims to help you get a better nights sleep are you? j/k

Incidentally...from someone who still makes the occasional "mix tape" (and I do mean "tape"!) If Only Tonight We Could Sleep was on my latest offering. It's such a beautiful song.

Peace Out All

"No, just a girl with a daddy fetish! lol" Girl, that's no daddy fetish, that's a monster fetish! :)
Steve, I have a feeling, this ProjectP is gonna be freaking huge, I can FEEL it. How fortunate you are to be consumed with art; it's admirable. There's a lot of other things one can be consumed with that aren't as productive. Keep up the great work, we're wit chu.
Peace

I liked the Sarah Mclachlan video even though I STILL can't ever understand her! :) It's a great example of the power to make change and how "easy" we have it.

Hey Steve, thought I'd check in and see if you were still with the Michael Moore playbook. Forged documents, stay at home mom isn't a "real job", that ambulance chaser is going to have people "up out of wheelchairs and walking" if elected, the VP's daughter's personal life "fair game", secret draft plans (oh, yeah, Democrat-sponsored draft bills, but let's not mention that little thing), countless positions on Iraq from a self-confessed war criminal (who happened to lie about his "service"), race-baiting, class warfare.... did I leave anything out? That's quite a campaign. Luckily Steve, you're out of the mainstream, even if Kerry thinks Hollywood is the "heart and soul of America". You're a great musician Steve, but clueless when it comes to politics.
