Ghost Hunting

Panic News: Band rehearsal yesterday, got back to the songs for the first time since the 3 weeks of recording. Did our set twice, and played some tunes for fun while searching for a cover to play for Tuesday. We found one, keeping it a surprise til the show.

Great news... my good buddy Ryan worked his magic and saved The Panic Channel website from having to be rebuilt from the ground up. He sent me the Flash files, and they will only take a few hours work to get back up to speed. Incredible news. Also thanks to my friend who I haven't heard from since High School, Jason Williams who came out of the woodwork to help the cause too.

Project P: Haven't had the chance to work on much music the past week, been getting a new computer (donated by a good friend) all in gear, and set up for band work. I send all my most sincere thanks, and will use it to the best of my abilities...
I left off Project P in the middle of two new songs (PB and N2) and play them a little every couple days, but sadly I don't think I'll get to focus on "P" for a few weeks. We are writing a couple new songs before we go back into the studio in December, so my writing care will be with them. I really wish I had another "empty" week where I could stay up all night and think of nothing by "P", cause I got so much done in that crazy first week of October, but that can't happen right now.

Ghost Hunters: My new favorite show is "Ghost Hunters" on SciFi. I have been steadily more and more fascinated with the idea of afterworld communication in the last couple months. It seemed that I got caught in a confluence of different events that all seemed to have a similar center: The beginning of "Project P", Halloween Season, all the books I've been reading about Ouija and afterworld communication, and my friend Andie's death. With songs, I find the best thing is to just go with whatever the flow might be and not try to hard to influence it with my ego. Try to assume that there is something working and hope that I am working with it.

Listening to: "Strange Eyes": Year of the Rabbit

That said, it was so exciting to be so single-minded and obsessed with continuing "P" that I miss that fever feeling now. I hope that when this recording is done, I can spend one more week with nothing else to do but get it finished enough to play for the guys.

Back to "Ghost Hunters" - I really look forward to seeing this show every week, they don't always find something, sometimes it's a bust, but they have cleverly integrated the "reality" aspects of their "normal guy" life and the tensions of running a paranormal research organization to offset the shows where they don't actually come up with any evidence. The TAPS guys also have a cool super blue-collar vibe that makes the whole concept of the show more palatable, instead of a wide-eyed, new agey Shirley Maclaine one. And did you see the episode two weeks ago where the chair moved on it's own in the attic of that abandoned light house? Hell yeah! Good shit.

Bad news: Eddy (my buddy from the Netherlands who ran/runs the Skycycle fan site), with my computer being stolen, I lost almost everything from 5 years of my band Skycycle which is really heartbreaking. Due to a fucking idiotic maneuver on my part, I had a folder of years of photos, 4 versions of our website that I had built, songs, lyrics, everything... was taken with the computer. I hope to have some stuff backed up somewhere on Zip discs, but I think I am screwed. I can't really articulate how bad this is, so I won't.

ooooh, how did I miss that one, I have been all caught up in Lemony Snicket and the Polar Express!!! Is that Dakota Fanning as the bubble gum kid, and, Veruka Salt looks great...I want it NOW!!!!

jezebel(what a lot to look forward too)

Regarding the afterworld, I love to read the books of Sylvia Browne. She has a very interesting philosophy and a writing style that flows so smoothly.

Good luck with the new computer and I'm glad to hear that you've recovered backups of some of your work.

Here's a cool link that may come in handy. Enjoy!

Good to hear you're making the winding path back to being computationally up to speed. My fingers will remain crossed for the hope that the skycycle stuff lurks, in the words of Jeff Bridges "Somewhere in these...memories" on a zip disc. good luck with it!

Steve,

for what its worth my heart is with you.

Is there anything we can help do to try to get this back.. money for a reward... anything

i remmeber hearing a story about a guitar being stolen from MB20 and putin a reward out for its return on a radio station.

I know its not much but if there is anything i can do... i will help. Please just name it.

Pony

Interesting...hope that's not the finished Oompa Loompa....Well, Tim Burtin usually does a great job with this type of stuff...so I have a feeling that those preview pics are just the tip of the finished product. Johnny Depp will be great in this role...I can't wait!! =)

Yeah Abby Johnny can do anything.

Thanks for the Charlie stuff...I've been very anxious to see what Johnny Depp does with this...I think he can pull it off.

"I have been all caught up in Lemony Snicket"

SEE IT! My sister is in it! Could possibly be Jim Carey's greatest role yet.

I have to express my admiration for Johnny Depp... he is just awesome. Not to mention really hot!

"I have been all caught up in Lemony Snicket"

Our twins actually auditioned for the part of Sunny (the baby girl) in this. I was so excited, cause I love the books and was really hoping, but nope they went with German triplets instead.

My lovely wife had not read any of the books until after the auditions were long over and her reaction after reading them went something along these lines...

"Are you MENTAL?!? You wanted our children to be in that movie?!? That could scar them for life!!!"

*ahem* yes, well... but...

Steve- Glad your back on your feet. Wow, your going to rock out a "cover." Is it maybe Year of the Rabbit.... maybe "Hunted" or "River" or maybe a sweet cover of "The Cure's-Plainsong-YOTR did a cover and it was just rad." I guess this is going to consume me over the weekend till Tuesday.......You guys love to be sneaky don't you lol?

Brett

So what's going on for next Tuesday...we're all gonna meet before the show right??? =) Brett....Jezzi says I should get the lowdown from you...lol We do all need to get together though!!! Sarah, you're going right??? Who else???

Steve. I have all of the Skycycle songs downloaded. It was the first thing I did when I came across the site. You may have them still or can get them easily but just thought if need be, I can give you the FTP info for the archive.

I found ONE page on Google cached: the lyrics page for Ruby! You just recently pulled the site??

There are apps you can install on your Mac that'll track your baby in the hands of thieves. LapCop 2.0 will call "home" when connected to a network!

-Craig

Oh yeah.....Depp in this new role...I am like a kid awaiting Christmas!!! I am currently awaiting my new T I got off E-Bay (The "Music Maker" one I mentioned in a prev post). Definitely gonna wear it on opening day!!! I fondly remember when Steve re-introduced me to this flick as one of his fav's back in the day. Think the first time I saw it since I was a kid was at your place one late night with a crew of us...I AM WOUND UP...hope it lives up to my expectations!
Take care all...have fun on Tues...wishin' I was still on the west coast to enjoy it all!!
Kev

yeah, Abby, i'm going for sure. i'll do what everyone else wants to. does anyone know what time they are going on yet, or what time the doors open? i'm sure we will get more info as we get closer to tuesday. i plan on arriving around an hour before the doors open. let me know what you are planning on doing. this time, i am staying late, for sure! i don't want to miss my chance to see the guys! so if you want to carpool, i can drive this time. just let me know.

How cool is Johnny Depp? I was just thinking, imagine being his kids, they get to watch their dad as Captain Jack, as the guy who wrote Peter Pan, as Willy Wonka...how completely awesome....oh, yeah and Edward Scissorhands.....
What a gift!!
Hi Steve! Great to see all the positive vibes being sent your way....Larissa!!!!! I love you too!!! Hope to see you on Tuesday
jezebel(oompah)

Hey Steve have you ever been to the Iliad bookshop in North Hollywood (at the big vineland/lankershim/camarillo intersection on Vineland)? They probably have some books about the unexplained and paranormal activity and all that worth checking out. They have a really big collection of old used and new books.

I have gotten into studying using the tarot for psychological and emotional healing in my spare time. It has proven to be more interesting than I thought it would be... I think I might get into developing and using psychic ability eventually, too.

M

OK Sarah...DONE lol...and YES we're staying FOR SURE!!! Woo Hoo!!! excited =)

Steve, I've got unlimited traffic/bandwidth/storage on a webhost and i can host as many domains as I want I believe... If you need any help with getting a skycycle fan site back up let me know at that email addy. I have most of the stuff that was on the old site and own a couple releases on cd if you need the songs.

My favourite children's book, directed by my favourite director, starring my favourite actor...

...sweaty palms, I really hope it lives up to the Gene Wilder version, especially in it's sinister feel.

Hope you're all having a fun day.

Roll on the weekend

VOTE JOHNNY DEPP! :D

"oh, yeah and Edward Scissorhands"....you're right, can't forget that one Jezzy...I love that movie!

Scott Peterson Guilty!!! Yay...lets just hope it sticks!

I agree Cori...It'll stick. He'll probably appeal....but at this point he can't afford his defense team for it, and I highly doubt they will be donating anymore time (though you never know). He is scum, and i ususally hate the whole thing of cheering for something so negative. The sentencing will be interesting though....they got him on "special circumstances..."

Steve, sorry for your loss of files. I can somewhat sympathize. I backpacked across Ireland in the summer of '86 and took hundreds of photos. When U2 came to ATL in '87, the Joshua Tree Tour, I got backstage and gave their tour manager a photo album to give to the band that had my best pics in it (didn't get to meet the band though :( ). Shortly thereafter, an insane roommate (at least I think that's who it was) took all my negatives, so, at this stage, only Bono has ANY pics from my trip to Ireland leaving me with only memories. But what great memories they are.

Steeeeeee-eeeeeeeeve........waiting for another post!!! =) Hope all is going well, hope to see a post or two before Tuesday!!!

Sarah....email me if we're on for driving up to the show...I'll pay for parking this time! =) (that is provided we park in a no-ticket zone!!! lol)

God i love Tim Burton , the Nightmare before Christams has got to be one of my favourite films of all time- I've taken to watching it in Spanish to help me with college.
Willy Wonka is such a classic though so it will be really interesting to see Tim Burton's adaptation - Im guessin it will be a bit darker than the original movie.

Really glad to see that all the Panic Channel site stuff is not going to have to be rebuilt from scratch that is such great news.

Love always,

Steve, I love the TPC flyer. Who did it??

I see you are listening to "Strange Eyes" YOTR. It was pure coincidence that I started listening to YOTR and Skycycle around the same time. But when I read about Failure on MTV.com they said that Ken Andrews was going to be doing the production or mixing (I don't remember) on the new Skycycle album. So of course I went to my Skycycle CD and he was not listed. Was there a reason you didn't work with Ken Andrews? Just curious. I really look forward to the future of the Panic Channel. I am already one of your loyal fans mainly because of TPC's (each member individually and as a whole) love of music and the making of it. I'm really glad to be following a group of guys in their music making process who are in it for the right reasons.

Thanks

Wendy,

I did that pic - from my sketchbook, ...Jezzi got it - it was a self portrait of sorts - a concept sketch for my outfit for the last show.
