Steve,
wow! Being as busy as you must be, it's terrific that you have the time to jot down all the memories, best & worst of 2004! I pretty much am on the same wavelength about much of your lists, especially the music!
I actually was a HUGE Faith No More/Hangin' w/MTV fan back, what was it, 12 years ago?! I was a big fan of your style then, and still am today! I saw a picture of Dave Navarro and you in Rolling Stone and I thought, Wow - he's a singer now! So I had to check it out and I think this whole blog thing is terrific!
Keep on keepin' on!!!

Harry Potter, definitely a great of 2004... I think Lemony Snicket's will be too, as well as The Phantom of the Opera once I see them!
It's not exactly a 2004 movie, but I also saw Beloved (with Oprah Winfrey) for the 1st time, that movie was dope... crazy, trippy, real, powerful.
Favorite TV Shows:
The Apprentice
ER
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
TV shows that are SO not my thing:
America's Next Top Model
Nip/Tuck
best moments of 2004:

having to put my 20 year old cat that I had for 15 years to sleep
the passing away of John Ritter (I was a HUGE fan of Three's Company)
reelection of Bush
looking forward to:
new music from bands/artists that rock along with their concerts
getting a cat from an animal shelter
seeing more movies than I have this year

I think I liked only a few films this year: "Birth" being the most interesting one. Seems like a big drought right now... too much formulaic crap.
My favorite book was Heinlen's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" and "Stranger in a Strange Land." They are almost less sci-fi and more poltics and religion, respectively. (Best book I re-read was "Dune.") Also enjoyed Orson Scott Card's "Prentice Alvin."
I'll miss: Azuma-san. Hair salon owner in Tokyo; from cancer. Took care of my wife for years with his wife. Thank you...
Best music was a Clash compilation of "hits" -- which I can't locate on my book shelf!
Favorite TV was "Shinsengumi", a Japanese program about renegade samurai before the "opening" of Japan. However, even with my Japanese, I can't understand many of the very-polite-level expressions.

I posted pretty much this same thing on my site a while ago, here are some highlights as well as link:
http://www.empyrelounge.com/features/live2004.html
oh and some background, im a lurker here and at 6767.com posting occassionally when I actually have something to say, but I run this music site that is far more promotional than critical as we just want to expose new music since nothing better than finding a new band. But we luckily get to go to a lot of shows and meet a lot of the bands that we dig, which is always cool. here are some of our live moments of 2004...
- 80s revival with great concers by Prince (simply amazing), Van Halen (well Hagar but it was still better than most), Tesla (no better than 'Love Song' live), Living Colour (Two Words: Vernon Reid), and Public Enemy (so entertaining).
- Velvet Revolver : rock finally has its attitude back
- New Bands breaking out : got to see great shows by up and comers Snow Patrol, Keane, The Killers, Ingram Hill, O.A.R., and one of our favorites, Robert Randolph & the Family Band.
Top CDs: http://www.empyrelounge.com/cd/2004/bestof/
10. Jamie Cullum, Twentysomething
9. Keane, Hopes And Fears
8. The Hives, Tyrannosaurus Hives

6. Wilco, A Ghost Is Born
5. Green Day, American Idiot
4. U2, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
3. Snow Patrol, Final Straw
