Everybody Knows Your Little Secret
Preparing to get back in the studio on Monday. I've been meeting with Josh Abraham, listening to what we've have, and coming up with ideas of what needs to be finished in these last sessions for the record. I am holed up with the Pro Tools demoing out some different arrangement ideas for some older tunes, and when I am done with that, I plan on demoing out 4 others:
"Listen" - the last song we were working on in rehearsals, back in June.
"Pay No Attention" - an acoustic song I was doing in solo sets before joining the band.
"Black Butterfly" - a song I started a couple months ago.
"Green" - the latest one.
These are all are moody tunes, as I am hoping we get something slow and dreamy to finish the record. When I listen to all the songs down, the collection seems to miss the one final song that completes the set. Hopefully one of these new ones is that song. The plan is to do one week of drums and bass in a "drum room" type studio (one that is specially suited to catching the best room sounds for powerful drums), then spend about a month and get all the overdubs done (bass, lead and rhythm guitar, vocals, harmonies, extra ideas).
I am in the middle of two big projects: finishing up the new thepanicchannel.com site, and getting better at ProTools recording. The site is taking time to get the CSS and Flash stuff worked out, and once the site structure is all solid, then populating the whole thing. So far it looks really great, and I am super excited to launch it. Trying to get it finished by the end of Dave's show, so all the new people cruising by can check it out. We'll see.
As for getting better at ProTools, as computer savvy as I am, I have always had a hate/hate relationship with recording music on the computer. I just get pissed off way way too quickly, and end up shutting down, and moving to the couch and recording into a little recorder. Time to get my skills together. I bought a ProTools learning DVD and I am going step by step from the start and getting all the info I skipped out on by learning it on my own.

Steve-Sounds like you are really busy working on things. I am definetly looking forward to you writing about how those new songs eventualy take shape with the guys. Sorry, I couldn't swing up to LA with Pony on Tuesday night, but the work thing is always in the way. Maybe next time..... By the way good luck with the Pro-Tools thing.

That's an excellent picture Steve-If only there was a computer showing-Steve,tattoos,guitar,computers=Hotness. (or something)
Really looking forward to checking out the new site!
I'm still learning all this music to computer jibberish. I tend to end up getting recordings of me smacking my guitar against my bulky computer chair arms..Not to comfy to say the least, and certainly annoying.

Dude, I can't even fucking figure out Acid. The software, not the hallucinogen. Not that I ever did the hallucinogen. I've only heard about it in stories and stuff. If you need the assistance, there are a couple of folks in LE that use Pro Tools exclusively. I am sure if you posted a query, you would get a response at the board lickety split.

Haha! ProTool. Ive never come across those tutorial Dvd here tho, sounds like a good thing. I know there's master class, but its like real $$$$, but worth it.
Knowledge in anythin is always good to take. What is the audio interface u use already?
Oh yeah, Im so mad, the dinner u guys had with pony, abb, misty (and I certainly forget some other) is so cool. Someone really has to create that Time machine, so I can teletransport myself to LA anytime! rohhhhhh, or come over in the nice south of France, I'll invit u guys in a Chic restaurant mes amis haha!
Anyway, good ProTool session.

Sounds like things are on the move again Steve, which is good...everything sounds well worth waiting for. And it sounds like you're back into it as well.

I just checked out Ricky Jay per your previous post. What a great site. I like his character on Deadwood. I'm looking forward to finally getting HBO. Did you see Ricky is holding a lecture at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in November? I have always been fascinated with magic and the occult. As a child I was barred from reading books or owning objects d'art.I use to sneak off to the magic shop or library and read the books anyway. Have you had any luck with your visitor?
