I'm a Lazy Bastard

Truth hurts, but declaring truth is somewhat healing. Ahh. That felt, nice. Since starting my writing news stories gig over at SuicideGirls, my own site has become definitely unloved. Let's just fix that right now.
It's Sunday afternoon, December, Christmas season, and as usual its bright clear hot sun outside and it feels like June. This is the kind of weather that non-Californians experience this time of year, fall in love with it and decide to move here. Well my friends, you can fucking have it. I want more weather, rain, overcast clouds, something to let me know that I don't live in a television show. Cause I don't. Lately I feel like I barely live in a life.
My friends are probably sick of hearing me complain about the "perfection" of Los Angeles weather cause I do, often. I am sure if I lived in New York I'd be bitching about that, but at the moment, I'd rather be in the snow and wind and cold. Nothing seems to change here. All of this kind of thinking factors into what I'm calling Steve's Exit Strategy 2007™. I can't go into too much detail about it here, cause the walls have eyes, but I'm putting serious thought into leaving town.
Let's change the subject.
This Thursday I'll be joining Camp Freddy for a show at Hollywood's Avalon Theater. I think it's a benefit, not sure, but I'll be singing "Highway to Hell" which is one of my favorite things to do. Show up, sing one song, then just hang out. Love rocking with no real pressure. Don't know who else will be appearing, it'll be a surprise.
In related news that isn't really news, but is the kind of tedious personal shit that you find on blogs, I am STILL sick. I went from never getting sick, like once every other year, to having a cough for 3 weeks now. Been through 3 different scripts of antibiotics and now am just about to go to the doctor again tomorrow. I'm lovin it! It sucks cause there is a whole embarrassment factor associated with being ill, like you say "I'm sick" and are somehow admitting that you are fallible. Weak. Like Darwin's law of survival of the fittest is about to swing 'round and kill you first. Or possibly I am reading too much into it, but with 3 solid weeks of coughing bits of my lungs out I've had plenty of time to think of these things.
Still playing Gears of War, which is fantastic, and also got a Nintendo Wii the day they came out, because I had to. I know myself, and I would have been obsessed with the Wii until I had one in my hot little hands and could check it out. It's really amazing, I love it. They were brilliant to make a game machine focused on easily having fun, and playing games socially, as opposed to Sony who just made a bloated, expensive Xbox360 with weaker online capabilities.
Fuck the PS3. Sony blew it - I hope they fail miserably with that one. I'll only get one if in a year it's unbelievable and clearly the best machine, but I don't see that happening.
The Wii is actually the kind of tech that moves forward all tech - it will certainly shift how people are able to interact with screens in the future, just like the iPod re-arranged how we approach our music. The Wii games aren't fantastic yet, but I am pretty optimistic that the momentum they have at the moment will bring some great and truly unique games to the Wii in the coming years.

Aww, poor Steve. I hope you feel better soon, especially since it's been three solid weeks. But it's good to see you back around these parts. And come see us here in New England (well, actually you are next month ... and I'll be there to see you play.) I'll share some of this lovely winter weather with you. I think I'm one of the few who DOESN'T hate it. I lived in Florida for two years and despised the seemingly "perfect" weather.
Okay, I wrote too much. Probably bored the hell out of you. I'm out.

I still say you can have your shitty iTunes... i like how my music was before.
i know i know... 70 million something people think I am wrong. But most of time I am used to that.
Enjoy the show and rocking out with your cock out.
Move up to the bay... the weather here is still good but it actually gets cold and foggy. You seem like an SF kind of guy ... except that you don't wear enough rainbow colored stuff.
Have a good one bro.

S! Get well, and the 360 might even heal u!
So where is our game on the 360, still waitin! lol
On a musical note, what have you been doin lately? playin guitar, composing? been on osx? thoughts on the Wii?
Take good care of yourself, and if you're considerin a move, think about Uk or even France :p

Big agreeing with pony on the music front. And big agreeing with Julien on the moving front; we've got some mental weather over here at the moment, took the power out for 10 hours today when all I needed was a cup of tea, but the winds and rain were immense, especially on the beach!
SES07 sounds intriguing though...

Ok the photo looks like Santa's mugshot.
You need to see a Pulmonologist. Fuck seeing another GP. If antibiolotics hasn't help for 3 weeks now, it's time to break out the big guns. There are some strange bacteria's lurking out there that are resistant to normal antibiotics used for URI's.
And well....NY has been experiencing some strange warm weather this time of year. It's been in the 60's though I know it won't last for long. I think you need to see changes in the seasons. You need to see the leaves change to colors of yellow, red and gold then eventually die only to see a re-birth in the spring and vibrant green in the summer. I've never lived in LA but I don't think you get to experience the beauty of natures cycle out there.
Screw snow. Snow sucks. So does below zero temp with bone shaking winds. I can live without that.
Feel better and don't leave us hanging and worried again! ;-)

Coughs suck - more so to a guy that makes his living with vocal cords. Peebs is right on with the Pulmonologist issue. May be a reactive cough following a cleared up infection and no antibiotic is going to fix a reactive cough until you find what your airway is reacting to - swelling, dryness, irritation, allergy to name a few. Moist humidifier and a *just a stab* - a bit ago you showed the lovely vine trying to grow into your house. The vine needs moisture to do this and moisture in walls makes for some nasty mold issues. Any black stuff floating around your paint of late? Recent leaking pipes or old issue of leaking plumbing? Get to the Pulmonologist and have a function test - get an inhaler or two or three and if imbibing in filterless smoke type stuff - well bake some brownies instead :)
Glad you are back in the blog world.

Thought you had vanished...just shriveled up and disappeared. The pace of things around here, including TPC, sure has slowed down...

Steve, darling! So now I know where you have been lurkin and in hybernation...Gears of War still? Addictive isnt it? This is coming from an online game junkie that is unshackled.
Weatherman, let me tell ya...being from the south we welcome new seasons as long as it is not Summer. So come on down to the deep south and spend a year here. From the humid summer days, to sometimes a spit a snow. You can stay up all night playin video games with my husband if ya need a place to crash :P...
/sings "Get Well, Get Well Soon, We Hope you Get Well Soon..."
Btw bought on itunes today "Loop Hole", love it fella.
Thanks for remembering us silly folks that just are nosey and care about ya.

I understand what you're talking about with regards to moving. One of the best things I found about moving from SoCali to Arkansas was that there are 4 distinct seasons. You can see it...you can feel it...and it really defines a year.
Posted by: Bonita | December 3, 2006 07:02 PM
Steve-I feel ya. I'm from the East Coast and it kills me not to see leaves change color/shovel snow or rock a scarf here in So Cal. I mean it's almost December and everybody's lawn is still bright green and flowers are still blooming? I'm going to Grad School and after that I am packing my bags and leaving town... as well....
The only thing permenant is "Change......."

3 weeks of coughing bits of your lungs out? what other symptoms do you have- fever or anything? There are lots of possible things that could be irritating your lungs other than viruses or bacteria... is there mold in your appartement or something? Hopefully you're not inhaling anything highly toxic.
Seriously, go see a pulmonologist. And get a really good air filter.
There is nothing wrong with admitting that you're sick. Sometimes you just can't make it on your own. You know, like the U2 song?
But anywho, NINTENDO! you have a Wii you lucky bugger! Tell me that Zelda is as awesome as I think it to be? No wait, don't tell me, it's just going to make me want to play it more. I looved Ocarina of Time.

Hope you feel better......
Posted by: brett | December 3, 2006 08:33 PM
I understand how you feel, I had a horrible cough when I went overseas and it fucking killed my lungs, and I couldn't go anywhere. It lasted for about 6 weeks. By the way im not trying to scare you or anything.. I mean it probably wont happen to you. Plus it was an overseas sickness. I love cold weather, I miss it soo much! Well get lots of rest and hopefully you will get better soon.

I live in New Mexico. My Chicago buddies thought I was nuts when I was thrilled about a snowstorm we got Wednesday night. Until you live in a place full of perpetually "happy" weather, you'll never understand just how maddening it can be. It fucks with your mind.
Posted by: Crys | December 3, 2006 10:06 PM
About the laziness thing. At least you can admit it. That's how you tell the men from the boys ^_~
And if all else fails with the 'pulmonologist' or what ever, try a natrapath. They seem to have a different out look on these things. I would recomend mine but I think Australia is a bit far for you to come even if he is a genius.
Also those anti-bio will kill your good bacteria too so watch out for sneezy people.
*reads back over* ...wow. I think I will make it with this whole natrural therapies next year.

Poor Baby! Coughing for three weeks... I wish I could rub Vicks on you, wrap you in a warm blanket and make soup for you...
It was snowing this morning! I empathize with the annoying perfection of California weather; I enjoy the dynamics of a temperate climate - just when you start to feel weary of a season, its over! Good luck at the Dr's, Baby! H.

Get better already or I'm gonna kick your ass.
I'm in New Mexico, too. Get your ass over here.
It's good to "hear" from you and I like your Santa hat picture... Your eyes are speaking volumes in it. Maybe not so happy, but speaking nonetheless. It's gorgeous.
I just noticed I keep talking about your ass.

Oh yeah, I ALWAYS say "I'm a lazy bastard." But, I'm not. Really.
No, really.

Steve, here is a recipe for clearing the lungs:
1 spoon honey
2-3 pinches of soda
1 spoon vodka
1 spoon olive
1 slice lemon.
Mix this. Take it 5-6 times per day. Get better.

Steve, something to make you feel better... NEW Ken Andrews song on his myspace page!Great stuff. Yay? Better? Oh and Failure is releasing "Essentials" w/ early stuff & demos from Magnified. That should make you happy.

Come to Chicago! It's gloomy and overcast every effing day of the year. Only two seasons here though : winter and construction. :/ Still, it's super clean here, and is super diverse.
Have you tried Airborne tablets? Love em. Also, have they handed you a 5 day Z-pack yet for your cough? That shit knocks everything out. I felt better after the first dose!

Steve, Darling!
This is a HEALING E-MAIL, FULL OF VITAMINS… YOU SHOULD REALLY GET WELL NOW!!!
In California it’s quite normal to have SUMMER in the whole year, isn’t it?
Here in Eastern-Europe though, there used to be 4 seasons…
Normally it should be very cold here with snow, but we hit a 100- YEAR-OLD RECORD TODAY: 18 Celsius (64,4 Fahrenheit or 291,15 Kelvin)!
Enjoy your game and TAKE CARE!
Love, Liza

Aw, hope you feel better Steve! And I can't blame you for complaining about Cali. weather. It's spastic - the middle of December and no real signs of winter. Occasionally, there's the chilly morning with a hot afternoon, but still.... anyway, hope you feel better, and glad to hear the Suicide Girls job is going well for you. :)

whatever dude. it's ridiculously cold in LA. every time I come here I get a cold and the flu or something. LA is supposed to be all palm trees and bikinis. yet all i see is a bunch of dudes in flannel and long underwear and chicks in too tight jeans and ugg boots and sunglasses. LA is really a mis-marketed cold ass un-humidified desert, it's like NYC minus the snow and rain and hipsters that are actually real hipsters.

You know I felt that way about California weather until I moved away from California. Now Im sitting in North Carolina in 19 degree weather freezing my tits off and Id give ANYTHING to move back to California. Wanna switch?

Amen to seasons! It may be cold as hell here..But I'll take it..there is certainly something about bundling up and playing in the snow!! Coming back inside taking off your snowy/icy wet gloves..coat..etc and getting warm ...Hot cocoa! Mmmm ;-)

It's funny because we had a green/brown/grey ... (every color except white) here in Canada. I HATE snow. I don't hate it, I just like it on mountains to ski or snowbard but not in my driveway or the little paths I take when I walk lol. I felt pretty depressed about not having snow. Now we have it and I feel better. We had rain in december, wtf !?!
Antibiotics + Virus (like flu) = No effect, but I don't know if you have a virus. Antibiotics are for bacteria. Anyway, you might know this (if not, I'm glad you learn something) and your doctor probably knows what he's doing. I'm not a huge fan of antibiotics taking for too long. Take vitamins it's good for your overall health. I did and it's been a long time since my last flu o_O (for me a normal year is a flu every other month and now it's been 4 months flu free and I'm surrounded by sick people), hehe ;-)
Hope you feel better sweetie.
