DRV-IN: Drive In Movies on the Lower East Side

drv.jpg

Last Sunday the lady and I went on a pretty unusual slash awesome date. I took her to an indoor drive in movie in the lower east side of NYC called "DRV-IN". It's just a little store front with a Ford Falcon parked inside, and a movie screen on the far end. They painted the walls with a pseudo hilltop graphic, had a popcorn machine, and host (at the moment) 3 movies per day. You rent out a time slot, can bring up to 6 people, and can bring drinks if you like. I just took her, in hopes of keeping it all romantic-style (mission accomplished). You can pick from 3 pre-selected movies - it was the first week of DRV-IN, 60's week, so we ended up seeing a French film called "A Man and a Woman". It was a super fun and really charming idea, and I'd definitely recommend it to all you suave devils out there.

We used to have 3 local drive-in theaters. Now there is only 1 with 6 screens and I read in the newspaper a few weeks ago that they have finally approved plans to change it into an indoor multiplex. It totally sucks...I wish it being the first place that I got drunk was enough to make it a historical landmark so they would have to leave it be.

You romantic man - our local drive-in closed two years ago to the machine of strip mall development and greed. Nice business idea for a dying spot of Americana. Kudos and gold stars for the suave romantic moves.

Romantic-style indeed! Good job and what a cool idea! We still have one drive in left...2 screens called the Twin drive in. As a kid, I always got bored with the movie going on in front of me so I'd watch the one behind me. Couldn't hear it, but it was fun. :o)

Love it! Adding it to my NYC to-do list.

Yea I especially love the christmas tree stand they have holding the fake tree.

Nice touch.
